At Hodmas University College, we are committed to creating a positive and lasting social impact in Somalia and beyond. We firmly believe that education and research play a vital role in driving sustainable development, addressing societal challenges, and shaping a better future. Our efforts in corporate social responsibility, research with impact, and alignment with global development agendas reflect our dedication to making a meaningful difference.

Corporate Social Responsibility

At Hodmas University College, we take our social responsibility seriously and are committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. We believe that educational institutions have a broader role to play in society beyond academics, and we strive to be a responsible corporate citizen.

To ensure the fulfillment of our social responsibility, we have established the Community Service Society at Hodmas. This society consists of dedicated members from our institution, including faculty, staff, and students, who are passionate about giving back and making a difference. Together, we actively engage in various community service initiatives and programs to address social issues and contribute to the betterment of society.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focus on several key areas:

Education and Skills Development: We recognize the transformative power of education and strive to promote access to quality education for individuals from diverse backgrounds. Through scholarship programs, mentoring initiatives, and skill-building workshops, we aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in today’s world.

Community Development: We are committed to supporting the development of local communities. Through partnerships with local organizations and government agencies, we undertake projects that address community needs, such as infrastructure development, healthcare access, and social welfare programs. Our goal is to contribute to the sustainable development and well-being of the communities we serve.

Environmental Sustainability: As an institution, we are mindful of our environmental impact and strive to minimize our carbon footprint. We promote sustainable practices on campus, such as recycling programs, energy conservation measures, and awareness campaigns on environmental stewardship. By integrating sustainability into our operations, we aim to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.

Ethical Practices: We adhere to the highest standards of ethics and integrity in all aspects of our operations. We promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and fairness within our institution. By upholding ethical practices, we strive to inspire trust and confidence among our stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and the wider community.

Through our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, we aim to create a positive and lasting impact. We believe that every member of the institution has a role to play in fulfilling our social responsibility. By actively engaging our students, faculty, and staff in community service and social initiatives, we foster a sense of civic duty and instill values of compassion, empathy, and social justice.

Research with Impact

Hodmas University College is committed to conducting research that generates meaningful impact and contributes to the well-being of society. We have established three main research centers, each with a specific focus on addressing critical challenges and driving positive change in Somalia and beyond.

Centre for Women and Social Justice: At Hodmas, we recognize the importance of promoting gender equality and social justice. The Centre for Women and Social Justice conducts research that explores issues related to women’s rights, empowerment, and social inclusion. Through interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships, we strive to generate evidence-based solutions and advocate for positive social change in areas such as gender-based violence, women’s health, and women’s leadership.

Centre for Economic Empowerment and Innovation: Economic empowerment is essential for sustainable development and poverty reduction. The Centre for Economic Empowerment and Innovation focuses on research that addresses economic challenges, entrepreneurship, and innovation. By studying market dynamics, business strategies, and emerging technologies, we aim to support the growth of sustainable businesses, foster innovation ecosystems, and contribute to economic prosperity in Somalia and the region.

Centre for Climate Resilience and Food Security: Climate change poses significant threats to food security and livelihoods, particularly in vulnerable regions. The Centre for Climate Resilience and Food Security conducts research that explores climate change adaptation, sustainable agriculture, and food systems. By studying climate patterns, resource management, and community resilience, we aim to develop strategies and practices that enhance food security, mitigate climate risks, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Through these research centers, Hodmas University College is actively engaged in knowledge creation and dissemination that addresses pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges. Our researchers collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and international organizations to ensure that our research findings have practical applications and tangible impact. By actively involving stakeholders, we seek to create a positive ripple effect that contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

At Hodmas, we believe that research is a powerful tool for driving positive change. By leveraging our expertise and resources, we aim to make a difference in the lives of individuals, communities, and the broader society. Through our commitment to research with impact, we strive to contribute to a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future for Somalia and the African continent.

We organize seminars, conferences, and workshops that bring together scholars, policymakers, and community leaders to discuss and explore strategies for advancing the SDGs in Somalia and the region. By actively engaging with stakeholders, we aim to inspire collective action and mobilize efforts towards sustainable development.

Our commitment to the SDGs extends beyond academic pursuits. We embrace a culture of sustainability and strive to implement environmentally friendly practices on our campus. We promote energy efficiency, waste reduction, and resource conservation to contribute to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and other related goals.

Through our involvement with the SDGs Accord, Hodmas University College reaffirms its dedication to creating a positive and lasting impact on society. We believe that by working collectively and harnessing the power of education, research, and collaboration, we can make significant strides toward a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future for Somalia, Africa, and the world.
